Marine doors
BOHAMET manufactures marine doors
Watertight door - sliding gate in the watertight bulkhead that closes off the passage between adjacent watertight compartments. Closed hydraulically, via the remote control from the captain’s bridge or locally, next to the passage itself. In case of a malfunction, the door may be closed manually (locally) with the use of a manual pump. The door is locked during the cruise or if an alarm is raised (water alarm, fire alarm) with the ship at anchor in the port. Watertight door ought to withstand water pressure in case the adjacent watertight compartment is flooded up to the height of the main deck. When closing, the door may crush or cut through objects remaining within their clearance – e.g. human body.
Hose-proof door - these doors close the passages above the main deck leading to superstructures from the open decks. Their structure ought to withstand the pressure of the wave flooding the deck and water splashes. Design tightness is usually obtained by the application of rubber gasket around the edge of the door, which is then pressed with the use of several dogs. Tightness of the hose-proof door is verified in practice by application of water jets (streams of water) from a fire hose.
Watertight and dustproof doors are also available.
